Federal government has refused to release N90 billion due for Adamawa State,Governor Murtala Nyako said yesterday.
Speaking while receiving the leadership of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) who paid him Sallah homage at Yola Government House, the governor said all efforts to reclaim the money from the federal government have proved abortive.
Nyako blamed the inability of his government to settle the arrears of leave grant and gratuity for retirees on the financial constraints resulting from federal government’s failure to release the said funds to the state.
He pointed out that his administration had planned to use part of the monies for the welfare of civil servants in the state, especially those who have retired from active service.
Nyako decried that despite series of follow ups by the state government the federal government had continued to withhold the money which could have been used to improve the lives of people.
He however did state details about the said money which the federal government is holding on to.
But a source close to him revealed that the funds were reimbursement for the federal projects executed by the Nyako administration within the state.
The administration had reconstructed interstate roads which include Yola-Numan Road, Yola-Fufore Road and Maiha-Pella Roads all being federal roads.
He explained that his administration had employed thousands of youths and provided vocational training for many who wanted to become self employed.
Speaking earlier, chairman of NLC in the state, Buba Maina commended Nyako for bringing dividends of democracy to the people.
He appealed for payment of salary arrears, leave grant as well as gratuity to those who retired from the state civil service.
