A Pakistani woman has given birth to five babies, her husband, Zahir Khan, said on Thursday, after 16 years of childless marriage.
He said four baby girls and a boy were born by his wife in her 30s at a hospital in the southern city of Karachi.
Khan said they got married 16 years ago but never had a baby in spite of wanting children.
“I am extremely happy and few people would realise how it feels when someone becomes a father after remaining issue less for 16 years,’’ he said.
Khan said the couple had been visiting doctors for many years for fertility treatment.
Dr Hina Taimur, the Gynecologist said one baby girl died immediately after the birth, but the mother and four babies were in a stable condition.
He said that this was the second time in less than a year that quintuplets had been born in Pakistan.
Taimur said three baby girls and two boys were born to another woman from the north-western region of Malakand in October. (dpa/NAN)
